Notes

The view of the ruined vaulting is similar to that shown in Piranesi's print of the interior of the central hall of the Baths of Caracalla of c.1765 in the Vedute di Roma. There are other related views in Adam vol.57/81-83 and 57/126; they may all be from the same set, and have rounded corners. There is a similar wide view in the Clerk Collection, Scotland (Clerk 44), which may be by Jean-Baptiste Lallemand that is also identified as the Baths of Caracalla.
