Notes

This unidentified view probably depicts an early seventeenth-century villa. Set in hilly and wooded countryside, it is presumably near Rome or may have been seen on the journeys that Robert Adam and Charles-Louis Clérisseau made to Fano and Rimini in September 1755. The irregular domestic buildings that are shown beside the road may be the same ones that are depicted in greater detail in Adam vol.57/133, which shows a similar landscape.

Verso

Pencil drawing of details of pilasters and two cornices shown in perspective.
